Auction House Porter – Trainee Valuer & Cataloguer

Auctioneum Ltd are seeking enthusiastic, driven and passionate people to join our young and enthusiastic team as an auction house porter / trainee valuer and cataloguer. This is a full-time position and based in-house within our Bristol auction rooms.

Overview & Responsibilities

To help photograph, catalogue and manage the monthly furniture sections of the Antiques & 20th century Sales providing support in consignments to the saleroom, liaising with clients, providing excellent customer service to buyers and to oversee the management and organisation of the furniture within the saleroom for each sale

The main responsibilities include:

Cataloguing & Valuing

  • Assisting with catalogue descriptions (measurements & description / condition details)
  • Conducting online and telephone condition reports
  • Managing the photography for the furniture sections of auctions
  • Adhering to deadlines
  • Assisting and helping create the layout of the auction online catalogue imagery

Auction Room Management & Duties

  • Liaising with clients regarding pre- and post-sale enquiries
  • Co-ordinating collection of furniture with buyer’s post sale
  • Receiving and managing incoming deliveries including checking off against paperwork
  • Managing the logistics of inhouse and offsite furniture storage areas to ensure smooth stock rotation and careful handling of goods
  • Assisting to prepare the auction room for viewings and ensure lotting up is completed on time
  • Helping to set the auction room up for
  • sales Managing re-entries of unsold lots
  • Internet clerking for auctions

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment and meet deadlines
  • Driven with a positive, forward thinking can-do attitude
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience within an auction house or a good understanding of the auction process preferred but not essential
  • Experience in manual handling of heavy furniture

Auction House Customer Sales Administrator

Auctioneum Ltd are seeking enthusiastic, driven and passionate people to join our young and enthusiastic customer service team as an administrator. This is a full-time position and based in-house within our Bristol auction rooms.

Overview & Responsibilities

This role requires you to assist in the professional administrative side of dealing with customer enquiries for all auctions pre- and post-sale. This will largely include after-sales processing of sold items to include invoicing, postage quotes, dealing with storage and general ‘sold item’ management in person, online and telephone. The main responsibilities include:


Customer Service & Sales Day Assistance

  • To ensure a high level of customer service in helping clients with enquiries on sale day, together with collection of items after the sale.
  • To assist on all sale floors before, during and after an auction.
  • To deliver a consistent high level of service when dealing with enquiries from buyers, handling requests from potential buyers and all after-sales services relative to any transaction / sale of a lot.

Management & Duties

  • To administrate the day-to-day processing of items consigned to auction, ensuring professional service at all levels.
  • Checking and proofing consignments forms, uploading and handling data, and where necessary ensuring all data from clients is captured.
  • To support and assist the valuers in the auction rooms including (but not limited to) assistance with editing images and proof-reading catalogues to a high standard
  • To manage and maintain all lot enquiries coming into the auction house via in person, telephone or email. This will include (but is not limited to) consignment enquiries, dispatch enquiries, customer queries, and other general enquiries.
  • To assist and manage all sold items within the auction rooms – either those awaiting collection, unsold or those off to longer term storage, and the associated paperwork and fees incurred through these processes.
  • Ensure the auction rooms and Administration offices are tidy and presentable at all times with all ‘consigned to auction’ lots being processed and dispatched in a timely order, as well as ensuring the packing rooms and stores are kept tidy at all times along with sale floors as and when needed.

  • Experience within an auction house or a good understanding of the auction process preferred but not essential
  • Previous fast paced customer service experience essential
